About Black Jack Grout Pumps
Black Jack Grout Pumps has spent more than 50 years helping contractors tackle demanding grouting applications with high-output, reliable equipment. From slabjacking and void filling to concrete repair and specialty applications, the company serves contractors who need the right pump for the job.
With an established product line and a highly specialized audience, the opportunity wasn’t simply to generate more clicks. It was to make sure Black Jack’s Google Ads campaigns were connecting searchers with the products, applications, and next steps most likely to drive action.
The Challenge
Black Jack Grout Pumps operates in a highly specialized industry where potential customers are often searching with a specific application, product need, or purchasing intent already in mind.
The challenge was to make the most of that intent.
With multiple products, applications, features, and brand messages competing for attention within the Google Ads account, we needed to understand which messaging was actually contributing to conversions—and which assets were simply generating traffic.
Rather than relying on assumptions about what customers should respond to, Fusebox analyzed the performance of individual Google Ads assets to identify patterns in clicks, conversion rates, and cost per conversion.
The goal was to find the messaging that moves searchers from interest to action.
The Fusebox Strategy
We took a data-driven approach to Black Jack’s Google Ads campaigns, looking beyond overall campaign metrics to evaluate how individual headlines, descriptions, and sitelinks performed.
This allowed us to identify not only what generated volume, but what generated efficient conversions.
Our approach included:
- Analyzing individual ad headlines
- Comparing product-focused and action-focused messaging
- Evaluating description performance
- Measuring sitelink performance by category
- Identifying high-performing assets to build upon
- Finding underperforming assets that could be replaced
- Using conversion data to guide future testing
The result was a clearer picture of what Black Jack’s potential customers respond to when they’re actively searching for grout pumping equipment.
Putting Action-Oriented Messaging to Work
One of the clearest findings came from the account’s headlines.
Product and feature-focused headlines generated substantial traffic and conversions at scale. For example, “Industrial Grout Pumps” generated more than 2,200 clicks and 40.5 conversions.
But one action-oriented headline stood out: “Contact Our Expert Team Today”
Despite receiving just 586 impressions and 41 clicks during the reporting period, the headline generated a 6.05% conversion rate and a $43.22 cost per conversion.
By comparison, the nine feature/product headlines analyzed as a group generated a 1.70% conversion rate at a $143.63 cost per conversion.
Headlines: Direct Action vs Feature Framing
| Headline | Impr. | Clicks | CTR | Conv. | Conv. Rate | Cost/Conv |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Industrial Grout Pumps | 34,848 | 2,282 | 6.55% | 40.5 | 1.78% | $137.66 |
| Lift Concrete Slabs With Ease | 16,518 | 1,168 | 7.07% | 18.9 | 1.61% | $150.38 |
| Buy Grout Pumps | In Stock Now | 8,420 | 673 | 7.99% | 12.1 | 1.80% | $137.61 |
| (5 more feature/product headlines) | 35,318 | 2,502 | 7.09% | 40.2 | 1.61% | $149.09 |
| Feature/product headlines (9, aggregated) | 95,104 | 6,625 | 6.97% | 112.7 | 1.70% | $143.63 |
| “Contact Our Expert Team Today” | 586 | 41 | 7.00% | 2.5 | 6.05% | $43.22 |
That’s a significant difference.
The data suggests that when searchers are presented with a clear next step rather than simply another product feature, they’re more likely to take action.
A Finding Worth Testing Further
The “Contact Our Expert Team Today” result is especially interesting because its sample size is considerably smaller than the product-focused headlines.
So rather than treating it as a definitive winner, we see it as a strong testing opportunity.
The next step is to give action-oriented messaging enough budget and exposure to determine if the performance holds at a larger scale.
Specificity Wins in Ad Descriptions
The same analysis revealed another useful pattern within the descriptions.
Different descriptions served different purposes, and each had strengths worth understanding.
“All In One Grout Pump Systems…Mixer, Hopper & More.” generated the most scale with 1,799 clicks and 34.2 conversions.
At the same time, “Black Jack Offers High Output Pumps…Void Filling And More.” produced the strongest efficiency, with a 2.15% conversion rate and just $112.85 per conversion.
That distinction matters.
The goal isn’t necessarily to find one description that does everything. It’s to understand which messages are best at generating volume and which are best at generating efficiency, then use that information to make smarter decisions about the account.
| Description | Impr. | Clicks | CTR | Conv. | Conv. Rate | Cost/Conv |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| “All In One Grout Pump Systems…Mixer, Hopper & More.” | 27,761 | 1,799 | 6.48% | 34.2 | 1.90% | $127.92 |
| “Black Jack Offers Durable Grout Pumps…Concrete Repair.” | 21,581 | 1,191 | 5.52% | 20.5 | 1.72% | $142.13 |
| “Get The Right Pump For Fast Effective Slabjacking…Over 50 Years.” | 4,890 | 416 | 8.51% | 7.8 | 1.88% | $136.82 |
| “Black Jack Offers High Output Pumps…Void Filling And More.” | 7,587 | 466 | 6.14% | 10.0 | 2.15% | $112.85 |
Product Intent Drives Better Sitelink Performance
Sitelink performance revealed an even clearer opportunity.
Product-category sitelinks—such as Grout Pumps and View Packages—generated significantly stronger performance than brand- and accessory-focused links.
Together, the product-category sitelinks generated:
3,267
clicks
57.5
conversions
8.36%
CTR
$139.51
cost per
conversion
By comparison, the Why Black Jack / Pump Accessories group generated 734 clicks and 6 conversions at a $311.36 cost per conversion.
That represents a 55% lower cost per conversion for the product-category group, while also generating more than four times the click volume.
For Black Jack, when someone is actively searching for grout pumping equipment, directing them toward a specific product category is more valuable than directing them toward broader brand information or accessories.
| Sitelink group | Impr. | Clicks | CTR | Conv. | Conv. Rate | Cost/Conv |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grout Pumps (category) | 19,964 | 1,698 | 8.51% | 31.5 | 1.85% | $132.59 |
| View Packages (category) | 19,126 | 1,569 | 8.20% | 26.0 | 1.66% | $147.88 |
| Product category (aggregated) | 39,090 | 3,267 | 8.36% | 57.5 | 1.76% | $139.51 |
| Slabjacking guide / Contact Us (aggregated) | 21,752 | 974 | 4.48% | 11.5 | 1.18% | $211.54 |
| Why Black Jack / Pump Accessories (aggregated) | 20,046 | 734 | 3.66% | 6.0 | 0.82% | $311.36 |
For Black Jack, when someone is actively searching for grout pumping equipment, directing them toward a specific product category is more valuable than directing them toward broader brand information or accessories.
The Results
The Google Ads analysis gave Black Jack Grout Pumps more than a collection of campaign numbers. It provided actionable insight into what potential customers respond to when they’re searching for solutions.
The strongest patterns were consistent:
- Action-oriented messaging showed the potential to dramatically improve conversion efficiency.
- Product and feature headlines continued to provide valuable scale.
- Specific application-focused descriptions performed efficiently.
- Product-category sitelinks significantly outperformed broader brand and accessory links.
- The business logo image generated more than 2,200 clicks, demonstrating that visual brand recognition can also play an important role.
- The call extension generated 840 clicks at a $132.83 cost per conversion.
- Structured snippets had limited exposure and no recorded conversions, making them a low-risk opportunity for testing more specific messaging.
Instead of treating every Google Ads asset equally, Fusebox can now use these performance patterns to inform future copy, testing, budget allocation, and campaign optimization.
